Music and Worship Arts

Choirs

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is a close-knit family of singers that most designate “a church within the church.”  The Chancel Choir sings weekly in the 11:00 a.m Traditional Worship service and occasionally in the Contemporary Service.  This Choir presents seasonal and non-seasonal musicals, and a wide variety of choral literature including traditional sacred classics, spirituals, contemporary and occasionally southern gospel. Chancel choir meets in the choir room from 6:30 p.m. till 8:00 p.m on Wednesday. The choir is open to everyone college age and above, who love to sing. No auditions and no experience reading music necessary. Come be a part of the Body of Christ through music in worship.

Vocal Groups

Youth Ensemble

This group meets each Sunday after church, from 12:15 to 1:30 pm in the choir room.  This is a music ministry for all youth, grades 6-12. In addition to preparing sacred, traditional and contemporary songs for worship services, there are many opportunities for instrumentalists to hone their skills and musicianship.  No audition is necessary.  One goal for this group is to develop a completely youth-led worship service.

Youth Ensemble meets every Sunday during the school year from 12:15 to 1:30 pm in the choir room to sing contemporary worship songs, in preparation for monthly worship service participation.

Praise Team

The Contemporary Worship Praise Team leads in the Nine01 AM Contemporary Worship Service.  The Praise Team and Praise Band rehearse Monday evenings from 7:30-8:45.  In addition to singing, there are many other worship-leading opportunities, from relating scripture to song, as well as leading in prayer and giving personal testimony.  This is an auditioned group.

Sing-Along Sisters

If you have a heart for seniors and love to sing, you'll enjoy being part of the Sing-Along Sisters! This ministry group performs at senior assisted living and nursing home facilities throughout the year. Practices are generally held on the second Sunday of each month at 6:30pm in the Choir Room. Performances are one Thursday and one Saturday evening per month.  For more information, call Joan Bryant at 502-387-0386 or Phyllis Scalzo at 502-523-6924.

Crestwood Boys

This Men’s Ensemble sings primarily Southern Gospel music and is comprised of eight singers.  This is an auditioned group and brings a joyful toe-tapping flavor to worship and special presentations.

Instrumental Ensembles

Praise Band

The Praise Band accompanies contemporary Worship each Sunday.  The Praise Band
rehearses with the Praise Vocal Team Monday evenings from 7:30-8:45.  We strive to allow everyone to make the most of their gifts and talents, which means that often, we come up with unique arrangements for songs and allow for team input!   Repertoire includes but is not limited to songs from such artists as David Crowder, Needtobreathe, Rend Collective Experience, Bethel Music, Hillsong Young and Free, Third Day, Jeremy Camp, Francesca Battestelli and Chris Tomlin.  We also utilize hymns in a more contemporary style and try to find meaningful worship songs that are perhaps lesser known, but cutting edge.

Sanctuary Carillons

There are Handbell opportunities for both Adults and Youth, and we are always glad to welcome new ringers.
Prior experience ringing handbells is preferred but not mandatory. Ability to read music is a plus, but not required since ringers typically are only responsible for 2-3 bells for an entire piece.   It meets Monday evenings from 6:30-7:30.  Come give it a try!

Worship Through Media

The Media Ministry is part of the CUMC Tech Team.  Through this ministry, worship video, congregational song accompaniment, liturgies, and weekly announcements make up the thrust of this ministry.  Media is a large and significant part of the worship experience at CUMC and the latest in technology plays a significant role. So if you are a "techie" or have skills in graphic arts, please contact Valerie Keller:  http://valerie@crestwoodmethodist.com We'd love to have your help!
